Overview:
Stay current with the evolving standards of care for phenylketonuria (PKU) in this focused educational program led by experts in metabolic disorders. The session will review the latest ACMG guidelines, explore approved and emerging treatment options, and provide practical approaches for managing patients with PKU and how to manage challenges related to long-term elevated Phe levels.
Through expert commentary and caregiver vignettes, the program emphasizes the importance of individualized, patient-centered care and offers actionable insights to support clinical decision-making across specialties. This is an essential update for healthcare professionals involved in the long-term management of PKU.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Review the most recent ACMG guidelines for the management of PKU, focusing on achieving tight control of phenylalanine levels throughout life
- Recognize somatic comorbidities and complications associated with insufficiently treated PKU
- Describe the rationale for and efficacy and safety data on emerging treatments for PKU, including classic PKU

Claiming Your Educational Credits
To receive educational credit for this activity, participants must:
- Complete a pre-survey and post-test in the MedLive platform.
- A minimum score of 70% is required on the post-test (up to three attempts allowed).
- After successfully completing the post-test, participants will be automatically directed to the ACMG Genetics Academy.
- In the ACMG Genetics Academy, participants will:
- Choose whether they are claiming credit for the live or on-demand version of the course.
- Log in with their free ACMG account (or create one if they do not already have one).
- Complete the evaluation form to finalize the credit-claiming process.
