Knowledgebase Resources Aiding the Assessment of the Clinical Impact of Somatic Variants Found in Cancer: In-Depth Looks at CIViC and OncoKB

Description

This course reviews CIViC and OncoKB, two prominent precision oncology knowledgebases available to the public, that contain clinical interpretations of somatic variants found in cancer. Tutorials on how to navigate each knowledgebase will be given along with details of how to use and apply the information to aid precision medicine.

Target Audience

All medical and healthcare professionals and researchers interested in understanding cancer genomic testing and somatic and germline variant interpretation methods. This series is presented as a collaboration between ClinGen Somatic, VICC, and ACMG consortia.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:

• Explain the precision oncology and cancer variant interpretation workflow.
• Describe the role of knowledge bases such as OncoKB and CIViC within the precision oncology/molecular pathology workflow.
• Identify the complexity involved in aggregating and standardizing variant annotations from distributed sources.
