Pdf Summary
A study evaluated the content and availability of categorical Medical Genetics and Genomics (MGG) residency program websites. It was observed that there is a shortage of qualified medical geneticists and the number of trainees pursuing MGG residency has remained stagnant over the last decade. This study aimed to assess the websites of all ACGME-accredited categorical MGG residency programs and identified deficiencies in the content available.

The study found that out of 46 accredited MGG residency programs, 44 had a dedicated website, but no program offered a website that contained all thirty-eight criteria. The most commonly available information included a program description, contact information, and length of training. However, two-thirds of programs did not disclose the number of positions offered per year. Less than half of the programs provided a rotation schedule, research requirements, and salary information. The least commonly available information to applicants were interview dates, genetics board exam pass rate of previous graduates, and resident research.

The study highlights the need for programs to develop comprehensive websites with standardized and up-to-date information. By improving the quality of MGG program webpages, the recruitment and application processes can be enhanced, potentially encouraging more trainees to pursue MGG residency to meet the current shortage of medical geneticists nationwide.

In conclusion, there are deficiencies in the content available on categorical MGG residency program websites. Programs should strive to provide pertinent and comprehensive information to prospective applicants.
